In Sanskrit language, there are two words – ‘Samaj’ let and ‘Samaj’ lekt. And the scripture says “Samajah Pashunam Sangah”. Thus the Samaj means herd of animals – an aimless unity of any gathering not woven in common cord. But the word Samaj indicates the assembly or gathering of human beings – strongly united by gentle but strong strings of culture, dedication, faith and belief. They have common ideals, loyalty, devotion, and sanctity of thoughts and places of worship. The congregation of people for only selfish motive may not constitute a Samaj. When ceremonies and practices, present feelings (like happiness and sorrow) and emotions, future expectations, ambitions become one within the society, then only such well harmonized, coordinated and cogitated congression can become a Samaj. So Samaj lends support to behavior and thoughts (“Aachar-Vichar”), evolve cultural heritage and creates sense of oneness amongst their members. Sense of oneness is created when life-blood of Samaj is nurtured with holy thoughts and emotions evolved through traditions. This is an ideal Samaj.
